During a time when the fate of childhood health is left hanging in the balance of the fallout of COVID-19, two organizations are coming together to keep kids active and engaged. Walmart Giving, a charitable organization providing funding directly from Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities to local organizations in the U.S., awarded a $1,000 grant to the INEOS ICAN Foundation.
“With COVID-19 prohibiting students from returning to schools, many parents, coaches, educators, and community leaders share concern for an increase in childhood obesity rates,“ said Kathryn Schuler, Executive Director of the INEOS ICAN Foundation. “The Foundation is honored to connect this donation to our GO Run For Fun initiative, and help tackle this growing problem.”
The GO Run For Fun Program delivers free, 1-mile runs to elementary schools throughout the country. The Program aims to change the attitudes of children when it comes to exercise by showing kids how much fun exercising can be, and to help them develop an interest in exercising outside of PE class. The $1,000 grant from Walmart Giving will help to sponsor over 150 children during a future GO Run For Fun event.
People Lead Jennifer Castilleja added, “We are thrilled to support the INEOS ICAN Foundation’s work in our community and share in their desire to provide local impact. By receiving this grant, the ICAN Foundation is now part of a long history of Walmart’s commitment to giving back to the communities where we operate.”
